Welcome to Fifth Grade!

Welcome to 5thgrade with Ms. Greenwood. I am thrilled to teach 5thgrade at Western Hills Elementary School. I have always enjoyed working with children and teaching was definitely the career that was able to fulfill that passion. My first degree is in Music Education from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. After graduation, I decided to go into business with my mother and sister, which brought me to Omaha, NE. After many years owning and managing a business in the corporate world, I felt my heart telling me that I wasn’t following my passion. I went back to college to receive my Elementary Education degree from UNO and once I stepped into the classroom my heart and mind were at peace…passion fulfilled. By year seven I completed a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I also love to sing, read, play volleyball, travel, and play with my dogs. It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to help build young minds.

Parents and guardians are always welcome in my classroom. You will see students engaged in learning math, reading, writing, social studies, and science. Please check your child’s agenda every night for concepts and skills they are learning. There will be some homework with larger projects as well as work your child was unable to finish during the daily time given. As always reading is such an important part of your child’s education. Please encourage your child to read every night.

During math this year we will be digging deeper into decimal numbers, fractions and order of operations. Students will be identifying figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification, and description within fiction and non-fiction text. Students will find the joy in creative writing and using research skills for formal genres that include reports and projects. Social studies is a time when students will be a part of the journey of our nation’s beginning, leading up to and through, the American Revolution.  Earth, Life, and Physical sciences will be experienced through hands on learning and group work.

Start every day with A POWERFUL POSITIVE!
